Tom Blackden of Comtecs led a very interesting discussion on e-commerce at the MBF meeting held on 1st March 2011.
He clarified the difference between just marketing your products and services on the web and actually taking orders for them online, then talked about the different setups for enabling customers to choose their items and then the payment options. Different examples, from the very well known like Amazon and eBay to the less well known specialists such as vinyl vendors, illustrated the possibilities.
The discussion afterwards explored what e-commerce opportunities there might be for members and how small retailers and other businesses could test the market without too much outlay (eBay shops seem to be a good option).
Thanks to Tom for his hard work in preparing and leading this interesting session and to Chris Elwood for helping him. Tom’s notes on e-commerce can be downloaded here
