Delivery times from the Royal Mail just seem to be becoming later and later. At the same time, the NatWest bank, the only bank in the village, has reduced its opening times and now closes at 2.30pm. The result is that letters containing cheques from customers arrive at small businesses too late to be paid into the bank the same day – very frustrating for those of us struggling to make money work well and to improve our cashflow in these difficult times.
When this topic was raised at our September meeting, I agreed to write to both Royal Mail and NatWest on behalf of Mayfield Business Forum to express our concerns and complaints. Both of them have now replied and you can download their replies below:
Neither organisation have offered any concessions, only polite explanations and suggestions of alternatives which are either less convenient or more expensive. However, we have made our views known, and hope that these will be taken into account more in future decisions.
We carry more weight as a group of 50 businesses than we do individually, so please raise at our meetings any other important issues – or the same ones again where we still need to find a good solution – so that we can work out a way to raise our collective voice.
